Liverpool, Pioneers’ Memorial Park

Pioneers’ Memorial Park is located along the Hume Highway, between Campbell Street and Macquarie Street, in the south western suburb of Liverpool. This was originally the site of the cemetery of St Luke's Anglican Church. In 1970, the cemetery was converted into a rest park, featuring original headstones and a memorial wall.

  3. The headstones almost look like a chess set, ready for action. Nicely captured.

  5. I am so glad that the memorial component of the Rest Park was retained. The original headstones and, importantly, a memorial wall.

    1. Tom, rest parks are often created when most or all the graves are removed from a cemetery and headstones and monuments are collected and displayed for visitors. In other cases, a new park is created for all the important headstones and monuments to be kept and the old grave sites can be reused, after 99 years.

  9. I think it's a little funny to be taking the Sydney cemetery and turning it into a park. I mean, I don't want to be thinking about walking on top of the remains of people…
