Balmain, Co-Op Society

The Balmain Co-Op Society is located on the corner of Montague Street and Little Llewellyn Street, in the inner west suburb of Balmain. This heritage listed building was built in 1912 in the Federation Free Classical architectural style. The building is associated with the working class co-operative, a self help by skilled workers who formed it to keep prices down on everyday commodities.

  1. Sign me up! I would love to join a cooperative run by skilled workers, to keep prices down. And the building looks solid as well.

  2. You seem to have a lot of that architectural style there. It's a beautiful building.

    1. I guess it was a boom time for building following the gold rush in Australia in the late 1800s when the country was very prosperous.

  4. There was a sense of permanence in signage and naming on buildings back in the day that we don't have now.
